I’m a student of business and marketing in particular. I’m also enamored with modern marketing technology. I like to think of marketing more as way of informing and influencing, rather than coercing or selling.
When performed well, marketing serves a useful role in our culture. It helps people understand options, gather information, consider insights, and make better decisions. Hopefully these decisions lead to outcomes that improve our world. More efficiency, empathy, productivity, and prosperity.
When done poorly, marketing is noisy, demanding, intrusive, and selfish. These tactics often lead to short-term gratification at the cost of long-term cultural enhancement. Making a quick buck through some click-bait may give the impression of growth and success, but only in the moment. Who is served and how does these communications contribute to a larger good?
This section of my site highlights my experience with, presentations about, and influences of marketing.
